How to eliminate sway, tail-wag,
and rut-tracking from Kodiak
motorhome suspension &
steering problems
Tim McClelland, wife Ruth, and their two Springer Spaniels (Jimmie and Charlie), now arrive fresher and less tired from travel at day’s end.
Tim says of his new 2008 Jayco Seneca SuperC on Kodiak chassis, “It handled well, but when you hook up a Hummer H2 tow car, it brought out some of the bad habits of a motorhome. You get sway and a little thing called tail-wagging-the-dog.”
Tim & Ruth’s new Jayco Kodiak, running in tandem with their Prevost Country Coach, shown below, gives them virtually a several room mansion wherever they settle in.

Problems That Surfaced
“If you’re on a bumpy surface,” says Tim, “like backing up on a lumpy parking lot, it had a lot of sway and flopped from side to side.”
“Or the way it wanted to track on ruts. With the tow car and ruts and the coach, there was always a kind of vague feeling in the steering . . . and it’s gone now.”
Tim reflected, “Tracks in ruts makes your day a lot more stressful. You can feel the tow car pushing you and you’re wiggling around. It makes for a more stressful day, you don’t drive as many miles and you’re more tired at the end of the day.”
Many Kodiak owners have these same problems, so you’re not alone.
Finding the Solutions
These RVers, who hail from the fabulous Ocean Shores in Washington state, met and talked with the Henderson’s Line-Up crew at the August 07 FMCA Rally in Redmond, Oregon. Tim revealed he’s a 30-year veteran “in the RV thing”. He already knew the problem and what he wanted and, after checking out Henderson’s, he says he knew where to go.
Here’s How Tim Fixed It

On October 23rd, at Henderson’s Grants Pass, Oregon facility, Tim finished having them install a SuperSteer® Rear Trac Bar, a Davis Tru-Trac Bar, Roadmas-
ter Front Sway Bar, Koni FSD motorhome shocks, and Safe-T-Plus Steering Control to eliminate the sway, tail wagging and rut-tracking.
He added Super Springs to handle the weight of his 6,000-plus lb. Hummer H2 tow car. Now he commands a rig that floats down the highway, even though he’s herding more than 28,000 lbs. Lowered stress is a wonderful advantage with that size load.
After a day’s drive now, Tim & Ruth are relaxed, much fresher and ready to enjoy an evening.
Tim’s estimate of Henderson’s? “They’re professional here. They do a good job.”

For motorhomes and 5th wheels, Henderson’s first recommends their RPA®(Road Performance Assessment). This nationally register-
ed procedure uncovers any problems in your vehicle’s steering, suspension and braking. With it, Henderson’s pinpoints the exact adjustments and equipment needed to bring a coach up to better than new condition.
